Brussels University Alliance

The ULB and the VUB have shared roots dating back to 1834, when Pierre-Théodore Verhaegen founded the Université Libre de Belgique, renamed Université Libre de Bruxelles in 1842. It was only in 1969 that the two Universities separated into two distinct entities, and the VUB was born. Nevertheless, they continue to share the same values and work together, and in 2013 their collaboration was given an institutional framework called the Brussels University Alliance.

As part of the partnership between ULB and VUB, the mission and goal of the Brussels University Alliance is to develop cooperative and collaborative projects between the two Brussels universities in the areas of research, teaching, infrastructure and logistics, community services, international visibility and recruitment.
