The 22nd of May 2023, GC De Kriekelaar welcomed a vibrant gathering on a sunny spring day. Julie Bertone from VUB’s Community Engaged Research & Learning (CERL) team, kicked off the event at 1pm with a warm welcome message, reminding us of the importance of collective engagement and spaces to develop forward-looking visions for the future of Brussels.

However, it's only through practical application that these ideas become tangible and relevant to our daily lives. This site has a long and complex history, a few years ago VUB and ULB started to reconvert into a new university campus and neighbourhood.

It intends to offer a space where diverse urban actors can inspire one another and initiate processes of collaborative city-making.

Op maandag 8 mei 2023 vond op de VUB een bijzondere herdenkingsceremonie plaats. Er werd vrijheid en verzet gevierd door middel van getuigenissen, toespraken, poëzie en muzikale begeleiding. Deze ceremonie markeert de herdenking van de dag waarop nazi-Duitsland zich officieel overgaf in 1945. Een moment om stil te staan bij oorlogsslachtoffers, verzetshelden en de waarde van vrede en democratie.

Op 8 mei 1945 gaf nazi-Duitsland zich officieel over. In heel Europa barstten bevrijdingsfeesten los. In verschillende landen bleef 8 mei een officiële feestdag. Men herdenkt oorlogsslachtoffers en verzetshelden, en staat stil bij de kwetsbaarheid en betekenis van vrede en democratie.

On May 2, VUB Architectural Engineering is organising an evening event to discuss the reuse of building materials, from ancient times to the present at RESET.

Students in Urban studies were invited to present their ideas concerning the reconversion of the USquare site to a panel with representatives of the municipality of Ixelles during the weKONEKT.week 2023.

Op vrijdag 31 maart 2023 trokken meer dan 250 studenten met de casuswandelingen op pad door Brussel in kader van de weKONEKT.week. Studenten biomedische laboratorium technologie, geneeskunde, farmacie en kinesitherapie van de VUB namen deel.

Join us in imagining the future. 24 young people take on the challenge of imagining the future together, across borders, away from preconceived ideas and cherished beliefs. Inspired by the work of artist Koen Vanmechelen and the environment of LABIOMISTA, they think out new perspectives and ideas.

During the weKONEKT.week, FARI and weKONEKT.brussels organised the FARI AI Datawalk & Demos. Students got the opportunity to view the city in a new light and explore the newly opened AI Test & Experience Center. Its point is to make citizens aware of various ways data is collected around you, with or without your knowledge. VUB and ULB students had exclusive access to the new space.
